Eating healthy while youโre traveling may be one of the hardest things to do.
There are so many temptations lurking about and itโs also tempting to have your diet take a vacation as well.
Iโve traveled quite a bit and have been in airports and resorts that have tons of options, while others have very slim pickinsโ.
Iโve figured out, sometimes the hard way, the top ways to stay on top of your healthy eating goals while traveling.
Recently I just got back from Spain. I was there celebrating my wedding anniversary!
The people were charming, the food was abundant and the wine was flowing.
Sometimes the food was so good that I didnโt take the picture in timeโฆ
Other times it was SO good that I got mad when someone aka the hubster tried to snap a pic of meโฆ
I spent most of the time living in the moment, teetering down cobblestone roads and marveling at all the beauty around me.
Luckily staying active was easy because I walked everywhere. This is probably the best way to squeeze in exercise while youโre traveling. Take the time to really explore your surroundings. Skip the cab and walk around instead.
Youโll have a much better experience and memories which will make for great stories to tell friends and family when you get back.
It will also allow you to see the country that youโre visiting in a way that you wonโt be able to whizzing around in a taxi.
As a bonus youโll save money and then you can spend it on food ๐
And youโll find more places to stop and take photos…
My favourite part had to be visiting the La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. Designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi, construction for La Sagrada Familia began in 1882.
Antoni Gaudi was a visionary. He dedicated over 40 years to building this masterpiece.
He was inspired by his love nature which he incorporated into every corner of this stunning church.
It’s been over 100 years in the making and still not finished.
Gaudรญ based his buildings on a simple premise: โIf nature is the work of God, and if architectural forms are derived from nature, then the best way to honor God is to design buildings based on his work.’
There’s something to be said for taking time to reach your goals.
If you need help with sticking to those goals while traveling today Iโm going to share 3 simple tips for eating healthy while youโre traveling:
Check out the video if you want to cut to the chase!
1.ย Plan Ahead
Break out that Ziplock bag and carry a stash of your favourite nuts and seeds to munch on while youโre busy scurrying around collecting stamps on your passport. The bonus is – youโll save money too!
My choice for the perfect on the go snack is Central Roastโs Raw Goji Energy Mix.
You heard it here first Central Roast is going to be leading the healthy snacking revolution!
All Central Roast snacks are made with natural ingredients to satisfy any craving while youโre busy on the go. These are snacks that are BIG on flavour and that you can actually feel good about eating.
Goji Berries are the most nutritionally dense fruit on Earth.
If youโve never eaten them before to quote Central Roast from their website:
โThe taste?โ Raisin with a lemon twist!! A natural tinge of sweetness with a very slight herb-like aftertaste.โ
This is the perfect description of what they actually taste like.
Why do you want to eat Goji Berries?
- For starters theyโre loaded with Vitamin C. Keeping your immune system strong while travelling is essential to warding off sickness.
- High in fiber which will help to keep you full while in between meals while youโre on the go.
- Trying to lose weight? Goji berries are the perfect weight loss food and help to reduce stress as well as boost your metabolism. I love thatโs itโs a portion controlled snack which also makes it a great weight loss snack.
- Theyโre ย loaded with beta-carotene (a pigment found in plants and fruits) which helps promote healthy glowing skin (FYI Madonna has been eating them for years. Enough said!)
Traveling with healthy snacks will help you from diving face first into a cheeseburger if your flight gets delayed, if you have to do a stopover or you go a long time in between meals. ย It will also make it easier to make healthier choices when youโre not famished.
2.ย Take a Greens Powder with You
Making sure you get enough veggies is probably the last thing on your mind when youโre sipping on a Pina Colada so a good greens powder will help you get the much needed veggies you may be missing.
It will also help to boost your energy and immune system while on the road and may even help if youโre suffering from a hangover…because…well it happens to the best of us ๐
3.ย Take a Multivitamin
A lack of routine during a vacation may mean that youโre not on your game and may be missing out on vital nutrients. A quality multivitamin will cover all the bases to make sure you stay healthy. If youโre like me you probably eat waaay more carbs while on vacation.
The thing is that wrong types of excessive carbs, like refined carbs [white bread, pasta, croissants, my personal weakness ๐ ] can deplete your bodyโs B vitamins, so your multivitamin should make sure that youโre getting enough.
Doing just these 3 simple things will go a long way to make sure that youโre staying fit and on top of your health goals while youโre travelling.
