No need for an ice cream maker! This smooth and creamy tropical golden milk ice cream uses ingredients that you can actually feel good about and is the perfect homemade treat!
So if there’s one thing I have a hard time saying no to other than a binge session of Netflix is….
Desserts.
When I was losing weight cutting back on sugar and desserts was the hardest part for me.
It’s something that you may be struggling with right now.
The trick to breaking bad habits is not actually to break them at all.
The focus should be on replacing those bad habits.
For example instead of mowing down on store bought brownies or double fudge extra chocolate chunk, caramel brownies, you make a healthier version including some fruits like this one instead.
It’s all about changing your mindset.
All of your current habits provide some sort of benefit to you which is why it’s hard to break a habit. Instead you need to replace that habit with something that offers a similar benefit.
In this case it’s a healthier version of golden milk ‘ice cream’ with ingredients that you can actually feel good about, that satisfy that cool, creamy sensation that most of us loooove about ice cream.
If you simply try to just cut out bad habits without replacing them then itch won’t get scratched and it will be hard for you to stick with that routine for the long term.
This is a big reason why I’m not a fan of eliminating foods like carbs or desserts when trying to eat healthier or losing weight. Another pet peeve is healthy food that sacrifices flavour…um no thanks.
As much as I love pineapples and mangos what I really love about this golden milk ice cream is the addition of turmeric, I mean that’s what puts the ‘golden’ in this ice cream!
Turmeric is at the top of my spice list! It’s hailed as the queen of the spices. Turmeric is known as kringhna in Sanskrit, which means germ killer. This superstar contains powerful anti-inflammatory properties. This is important because inflammation is at the root of many diseases in the body. So I’m giving you a dessert that can help with your inflammation…you’re welcome 😉
Curcumin, the main component found in turmeric is responsible for turmeric’s medicinal benefits. Studies have shown that turmeric has been beneficial in improving rheumatoid arthritis and Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Crohn’s disease. It’s also been show to help detox your liver and boost your energy.
Turmeric milk roots stem from Ayurvedic medicine, which is the world’s oldest holistic (“whole-body”) healing systems. In Indian cultures it has been known for centuries as a “healing spice” used to help anything from colds, flus, and sore throats to healing abrasions and skin issues (due to it’s antibacterial and antimicrobial properties).
If you haven’t had it before, or are questioning golden milk ice cream, turmeric has a warm, earthy, flavour, with a slight hint of pepper. The perfect compliment to tropical fruits like mangos and pineapples.
If golden milk ice cream isn’t your thang you can check out this recipe for a more traditional savoury turmeric recipe. Adding a dash or two of black pepper when cooking, can increase absorption by about 1000%!
Turmeric health benefits
Here are 7 reasons to eat more turmeric:
Lowers cholesterol and prevents heart disease
Studies show that curcumin not only reduces bad cholesterol levels by up to nearly 12%, but it also increases the levels of good cholesterol by 29%. Curcumin that active powerful component in turmeric may reduce, or even prevent, the oxidization of bad cholesterol (LDL), which, if left untreated can lead to plaque development in blood vessels, which increases the risk of heart disease and stroke.
Boosts liver’s detox capability
Turmeric helps to protect the liver against toxins by improving liver function and helping your liver to detox
Eases digestion
Turmeric can be used to help treat a number of different digestive problems, including Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Crohn’s disease. It’s also helpful with reducing gas and bloating. Even just a little daily can help.
Helps with weight management
The active ingredient curcumin stimulates the gallbladder and increases bile production. Bile helps to digest fats, which can aid with weight loss, and weight management.
Helps to minimize cancer risk
Curcumin also has powerful antioxidant properties that can protect your body from free radicals. Free radicals are highly reactive molecules usually from environmental pollutants and pesticides that increase your risk of cancer. Curcumin may help to kill cancerous cells, stopping them in their tracks from spreading throughout the body.
Keeps you youthful
Turmeric is the best anti-aging secret! Famous in Ayurveda and Chinese medicine as a healing herb, it’s been used in India for thousands of years to help maintain youthfulness. It helps stop cellular aging by capturing free radicals that cause DNA damage—and ultimately age the body—to keep you looking youthful.
Supports cognitive function
Curcumin, the active compound has been shown to increase brain cognition. Cognition is the ability to know and understand through our senses. This is why studies have seen success with turmeric helping to prevent or delay Alzheimer’s and dementia.
