It’s important to make sure that kids are well fueled at school so that they stay alert, focus better, while keeping their memory sharp so they retain everything they learn.

Stabilizing their blood sugar is also the name of the game for all day energy, and even more important for the little ones under the age of 6 to keep them from bouncing off the walls 🙂

Back to School Lunch Ideas Foundations:

A well balanced meal should include each of the following – protein, fat and fiber.

During the segment, and with each back to school lunch, I shared the nutritional needs for each age group. I cover it all including the recipes in this free download but here are some things you may want to consider:

Kindergarten – Keeping their blood sugar balanced is key in order to balance out all that abundance of energy. I included key foods to make sure their blood sugar stays stabilized to avoid spikes in blood sugar.

Elementary [Grade 1 – Grade 6]  – There’s a lot of learning so I shared the most important macronutrient that they need in their diet, fat, and how to get more of it to keep their brain fueled.

Middle school – It’s a time of transition so a lot of adolescent hormones roaming around. I shared foods that will keep their hormones balanced as well as nutrients that are needed for growth like protein.

High Schoolers – High Schoolers absolutely love cheese as well as fast food. I included a healthier take out option that was so easy to make that they could even make it themselves.

Teenagers not morning people, and also their sleep patterns are not the best. That’s why I included foods that will help to boost their energy so they can stay awake at their desk and ace that exam.

Since most people, adults and kids alike are deficient in fiber all the recipes included high fiber foods that will help with healthy digestion, balancing blood sugar while eliminating unwanted toxins from the body.
